"Mary Weatherford has become increasingly recognized as one of the leading painters of her generation, as well as one of the most astute and daring practitioners taking on the legacies of American abstraction."
—David Kordansky announcement for the show “like the land loves the sea”
MARY WEATHERFORD
I started working with Mary when she was represented by Kathryn Brennan’s Sister Gallery in Los Angeles’ Chinatown district in early 2006. When she introduced neon onto her canvas we began testing in order to develop procedures to best capture and composite these works which are technically complex. This process of testing and evolving the formula for rendering the work continues today as Mary evolves her painting practice in ways that never cease to amaze me. I spend hours looking at her paintings, analyzing the color relationships and the forms as I choose which details to feature. They truly trip me out.
